This is a Bell Canada box and was reported to them earlier in the year with no result. We will see if this shames them into action. (I think the box and the pole could actually be removed as they used to be for a public telephone that is long gone!
This wasn't a City of Toronto issue, but this doesn't matter as it has been resolved anyways: the indicated utility box has been completely removed (see photo from as close to the same angle as I could get.) So I'll close this off.
Now they just need to remove the old (and apparently unused) wooden pole! It - and the now removed box - were used to provide service to the Bell pay phone that used to be outside the former Toronto Public Library offices in the building at that corner! I tried to get Bell to remove both when building was demolished, glad we are at last 50% there!
I'm not going to bother closing this again as it will probably just get reopened, but these poles aren't managed by the City of Toronto which is probably why this sat for a year. They are managed by Toronto Hydro who can be contacted at 416-542-8000.
This is actually a BELL CANADA pole and though I emailed them about it I heard nothing apart from them agreeing it 'seems to be ours'. As it is on the City sidewalk I was hoping the City would take action - now it appears to be unused I suppose they may do or someone will knock it over and it will not be replaced.
"as did Toronto Hydro’s reasoning for not taking them down sooner. To Hydro’s credit, they were gone about a week after our column. The power utility says the poles often linger long after they’ve been replaced due to “third-party attachments,” wires that belong to other utilities, such as Bell Canada, that have yet to be removed."
I don't want to be reminded about this since I do not go near and don't know if it has been fixed but since it is a Bell issue I don't think it should be here.
This is a problem on CITY property so certainly 'belongs here'. It will probably not be fixed until the adjacent site is developed but it has NOT been fixed and should remain open.
